Pauline Shortlisted BOOKSHOP MANAGER OF THE YEAR sponsored by HarperCollins

I am extremely proud to announce that Pauline has been shortlisted for the

BOOKSHOP MANAGER OF THE YEAR

sponsored by HarperCollins

“Pauline is an outstanding bookseller, with great enthusiasm and knowledge of books, the trade and her customer's needs. Since taking over the bookshop I've seen the range develop and grow and, more importantly, work financially. When it comes to customer service, I've not seen many better than Pauline. She's always engaging, friendly and willing to help her customers and often goes the extra mile to find a customer's sought-after title. She's also very good at matching books to customers, often suggesting titles and authors the customer may never have considered or heard of. I've also witnessed several occasions where Pauline has been called upon to act as a sort of tourist guide, directing customers and tourists to local amenities and attractions, and every time she's done so with enthusiasm and friendliness. Pauline is an outstanding bookseller and it's a great pleasure for me to call on her and her bookshop.”

Our nomination was supportedby a great many colleagues in the industry and Pauline was overhwelmed by their support and kind words.   Waterstones, which leads the bookselling contingent with five shortlistings, faces stiff competition in Book Retailer of the Year, squaring off against Blackwell’s, Ireland’s Dubray Books, Foyles, Sainsbury’s and W H Smith Travel. It also has two staffers shortlisted for Bookshop Manager of the Year (sponsored by HarperCollins): Anjuli Clayden, who runs the Dorking store, and Jonny Green, whose “cluster leader” role gives him responsibility for the chain’s Piccadilly flagship and the two Hatchards shops. Clayden and Green battle Marion Akehurst, manager of Blackwell’s at the Wellcome Collection—who was shortlisted for the award in 2013—and Pauline Giacomelli, co-owner of independent Warwick Books. A manager from either Blackwell’s (four wins) or Waterstones (three) has won the award for seven consecutive years.

We have fingers and toes crossed and will let you know the outcome on the 9th of May!

“ Full of enthusiasm, approachable and armed with a wealth of knowledge,  this book selling team is remarkable!”

“Pauline is a natural bookseller, enthusiastic, hardworking and innovative. She also has an easy way with customers that turns them into friends. As a result, Warwick Bookshop is fast becoming a proper community bookshop on the backof her and her partner’s hard work and application. A worthy candidate for bookseller of the year.”
