A Review By Frances
This is one of a series of children’s books produced by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to both increase awareness in children of how to be a responsible pet owner and to raise money for the home.
This story is about a little girl called Ruth who is allowed by her parents to choose a dog from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home when her older brother,Ben, leaves home to go to University. Misty is a beagle who is very energetic, but she and Ruth are soon hard at work training across the assault course that was Ruth and Ben’s favourite game.
As well as having a good story line – will Misty be ready to be entered for the doggy obstacle course at the local Village Fair in a few weeks time? –the book includes plenty of tips for training. There is also a factual section at the end of the book with information about dog care, re-homing and some puzzles. Aimed at children from 5 to about 8 or 9, this is a delightful series and will appeal to lovers of Holly Webb’s puppy and kitten books and children who like animal stories.
