A Review By Keith Smith

A bit of light, very light, summer reading. Just right for the beach or hols. I was amazed when I looked on my own shelves to see that I had a lot of Kathe Lette’s books. When I read this latest I saw why I once had a penchant for her. Every other line is a throw-away. It’s almost as if it’s Kathy herself moving from one laugh-inducing gag to another at breakneck speed. The plot is incidental. You’ll either love it or hate it.

I’ll open the book and choose a paragraph at random….”When I went to see this solicitor about child maintenance, he asked me in a routine way whether or not I had any convictions. I told him ‘Yeah, I do. That all men are bastards.’ ‘No,’ this pin-striped solicitor re-iterated ‘I mean prior convictions.’ So I said ‘Yeah, that all men I met prior to my husband were bastards, too! I just bloody well didn’t know it!’

And so it goes on line after line. AS I say plot incidental, but you can be sure ther’s heartache and romance in there AND that there’s a happy ending!
